Milawa Cheese Company’s – Charity Cheese Ball Saturday 26th May – 6pm Silent Auction, 7.30 Dinner
Cancer is Australia's leading cause of death and will affect every single Australian at some point during their lives.
Annie Brown was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2008, a tumor too large to operate on was found in her oesophagus, and the prognosis wasn’t good. She was involved with a trial treatment at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre involving ra-diation and chemotherapy and then finally surgery. Annie fought hard with the help of Peter Mac and has been cancer free now for the last 3 years. All of us want a future where this disease is completely eradicated. Only a continued investment in research will fulfil this wish.
The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is the only hospital in Australia solely dedi-cated to people with cancer. They treat over 25,000 patients every year and are home to the largest cancer research centre in the southern hemisphere.
Milawa Cheese Company will be hosting a Charity Cheese Ball on May 26th as part of the High Country Harvest Festival to celebrate the life of our Mrs Cheese and all profit will be donated to Peter Mac, a silent auction will precede the ball and with your generous support we aim to donate $10,000 to Peter Mac.
Held in the Historic Milawa Cheese Factory’s ‘Ballroom’ this black-tie candle lit ex-travaganza will showcase the regions fine wines paired to a 5 course regionally in-spired menu developed by Danny Neate (previously Brown Brothers Epicurean Cen-tre, now Little Small Batch) and Emily Thomas (previously River Cafe London, now at hobba coffee+kitchen) and prepared by our head chef Bob Langmead. Old school swing jazz tunes will have you dancing between the tables making for a great night out. $175pp

Oxley Estate 2008 Durif
Durif is a highlight of North East Victoria, where is has resided for over 100 years. Discovered by Dr Durif as an abberation in a French vineyard in the 1880s, and named for himself, it seems to have found its niche in the Aussie soils and climate. For decades, it has been loved by a band loyal devotees, and in recent years has started to achieve the appeal it deserves.
Durif is typically an age-worthy beast, bearing cherry and plum flavour atop rich earthy tones. Ours has been described by wine writer Huon Hooke as somewhat "more elegent in style" than its counterparts, and whilst it cellars remarkably, is more than approachable in youth.
The 2008 has ripe, perfumed berry/cherry aromas atop a backbone of durif’s forest/earthiness and hints of vanillin oak. The palate has warmth and richness, ripe fruit, sweet toasty oak and loads of silky, velvety tannins. It is an elegant, integrated style with great length of flavour and balance. A great match for rich, slow-cooked meat/game dishes, or maybe tender barbecued beef or venison.
Bronze medal, Dookie Wine Show, Class 4, 2011; 88 points, James Halliday Wine Companion 2012
